Direct Email Marketing is probably the most effective form of advertising. The majority of people have access to an email account, be it their own personal account or an account at work. We’re also used to viewing multiple emails every day.

Quite rightly there are laws in place to prevent the sending of unsolicited emails i.e. spam. For this reason, if you want to mass email, the best platform for doing so is to use one of the major autoresponder companies like Aweber or Getresponse.

Imagine that you had available to you, for a ridiculously low cost, an employee who would work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year to consistently and effectively market your business. I started building wordpress based site using the Madingo Theme, progressed to using iThemes and have recently been using the Thesis WordPress Theme. Both ithemes and Thesis are professional themes for which I have bought a developers licence which allows me to build client sites using them.

I’m looking to approach people who work in the therapy/private nursing sector to build websites for them having noticed that many of them do not have a website. The site above is in the style of a directory with each business added appearing on the front page until pushed down the list by new entries. Each entry is also displayed in a Category, for example – Holistic Therapists. I’m also adding static pages accessed by a navigation menu bar at the top of the website. Each static page contains information about a particular aspect of therapy of nursing.

An individual business could have a similar layout, with the front page being updateable by the owner. Alternatively, the front page could be static and the updateable section moved to a page called “latest news” for example.

The great benefits for the owner is that the site is easily updateable and because the site uses a WordPress Blog platform, it tends to get ranked highly in the search engines for numerous keywords.

It’s also possible to add a customer capture/newsletter as I’ve done with the www.therapiesdirectory.com site.

Frankly I’m amazed that in difficult economic circumstances, businesses are still using the scatter gun approach to marketing.

Today especially it’s all about return on investment (ROI)

If you can invest £1 in your marketing and guarantee a return of £2, how many £1′s would you invest? Personally, I’d invest as many as I could.

On the other hand, throwing out a newspaper ad that has no appeal whatsoever to 99% of the people that MIGHT see it, and no guarantee that the target maket you’re TRYING to reach WILL see it, seems a little odd.

That’s a fifty to one return !!!

The problem is that you have to take some initial action to set up your email marketing system in the first place. Those spectacular returns only happen when your system is established.

Just to show you how powerful wordpress is and how it helps you to get ranked in Google and the other search engines: The Investment Property Club website was built around ten days ago and as far as I’m aware, the only link to it is from the portfolio page of One Day Website. In other words, nothing has been done to promote the site for search engine rankings. I checked today by typing “investment property club” (without quotes) into the google.co.uk search engine, and was delighted to find the site listed on the first page of results at position 4.

In the screen capture below, you can see that there are 273,000 competing pages for that term.

* People browsing the internet looking for information, typically search without quotes. The number of results returned in google are the pages that have your phrase somewhere on the page in any order, for example property investment club, or club property investment. When you are conducting keyword research and competitor analysis, the search is done with quotes. This gives you the number of competing pages that are specifically optimised for the term exactly.

Part of the reason that this website ranks highly for “investment property club” lies with the choice of domain name.

The rankings can, and do dance around, so if you check in Google (and I suggest that you do), it could be number one, or it could be on page 13. Stability comes with time and backlinks.
